What is the difference between PayPal Checkout vs PayPal Payflow Pro?

Admoji supports four PayPal gateway options. PayPal Payflow Pro and PayPal Commerce work as standard credit card processors without redirects. Paypal and PayPal Checkout, which appears as PayPal Expanded in the Gateway dropdown, both use a redirect flow where customers complete payment on PayPal's platform.

Paypal / PayPal Expanded (PayPal Checkout) Overview

  • Redirect Flow: Customers are redirected from your campaign to PayPal's platform to complete transactions.

  • Return Process: Customers are redirected back to your campaign's thank you page after payment.

  • Credential Requirements: Client ID and Client Secret.

PayPal Payflow Pro Overview

  • Direct Processing: Processes transactions directly without redirecting the customer.

  • Standard Integration: Works like any standard credit card processor in your payment workflow.

  • Credential Requirements: Username, Password, Merchant, and Partner.

PayPal Commerce Overview

  • Direct Processing: Charges the customer's card through PayPal without redirecting the customer.

  • Standard Integration: Set it up on the Credit Card tab and use it like any other card processor.

  • Credential Requirements: Client ID and Client Secret.

  • Sale only: PayPal Commerce does not support Auth + Capture.

Setup and Configuration

  1. Go to Merchants > Processors.

  2. Click the New button to create a new processor.

  3. Choose Paypal, PayPal Expanded (PayPal Checkout), PayPal Commerce, or PayPal Payflow Pro from the Gateway dropdown.

  1. Enter the required credentials for your selected gateway.

Note: For Paypal, PayPal Expanded and PayPal Commerce, Test Mode connects the processor to PayPal's sandbox, so use your sandbox Client ID and Client Secret with Test Mode on and your live ones with it off. Admoji checks the credentials with PayPal in both modes, also when you save, so credentials from the wrong environment are rejected.

  1. Set up processor name, group, and other configuration options. In the Settings tab, the MID Number and Currency are required.

  2. Click Save to complete the setup.
